CORK FLOOR SANDING & POLISHING PHOTOS

Cork is becoming a popular choice of flooring material in Australia. It's made from the bark of a cork oak tree. We've installed and sanded and polished quite a few cork floors in Toowoomba. It's one of the most environmentally friendly flooring materials available as it grows almost as fast as bamboo, but it's a bark that's harvested from a tree that continually regenerates every couple of years.

As long as the cork flooring is solid and glued down securely, it can be sanded and polished. This will protect it against moisture, stains, scratches, and fading (if a high-quality commercial grade finish system is used).

Below are some photos of cork flooring projects we've done around the Toowoomba, Darling Downs area...

Some of the advantages of cork flooring over more traditional timber floors: Great thermal and sound insulation properties. It's soft, quiet and comfortable to walk on. Warm in winter and cool in summer. Fire resistant. Inexpensive. Flexible. Hypoallergenic. Has a natural mould inhibitor. It's impact resistant if something is dropped on because of it's natural memory, and not as hard to things will bounce more than a harder flooring material.

Some of the disadvantages over timber flooring: Not as durable as solid timber floors. Can fade quickly in sunlight if not sealed with a proper commercial grade finish system. Heavy furniture can leave indentations if left for a long time.
